Traffic Offences: 78 jailed in Edo

BENIN CITY - A Mobile Court has sentenced seventy eight (78) motorists to diverse prison terms for violating traffic laws during a sitting on Wednesday, 7th March, 2012 at Ramat Park in Benin City.

In her statement, the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Edo Command, Mrs. Aderonke Daniel, said the traffic offenders were arrested by FRSC operatives during a special patrol operation carried out to curb the increasing rate of traffic laws violations by motorists within the City centre.

The Mobile Court activities, presided over by Chief Magistrate Igbinosa was conducted to serve as a deterrent against traffic laws violators and to allow for the quick dispensation of justice. The convicted motorists were allowed an option of fine.

The FRSC Commander warned motorists within the State and beyond to desist from disobeying traffic rules, as the Command would not hesitate to have recalcitrant and dangerous drivers brought to book, through the mobile court which is a continuous activity. She expressed displeasure toward the prevalence of seatbelt violation which costs nothing to make use of.
