6-Man C’ttee set up for Rotary Eye Centre

BENIN CITY – A six-man Management Committee for Rotary Eye Centre, Central Hospital, Auchi, was yesterday inaugurated by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Cordelia Aiwize.

Inaugurating the committee in her office, Dr. Aiwize restated the state government’s commitment towards ensuring the provision of an effective and qualitative eye care services to the people of Edo State.

The commissioner said that to achieve this goal, the present administration under the leadership of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had provided ultra modern eye facilities’ at the Stella Obasanjo Women and Children Hospital, Benin City, to be used for the diagnoses and treatment of all manners of eye problems, sponsored a number of Ophtamologists to India for more training as well as constructed and commissioned Rotary Eye Centre at Central Hospital, Auchi amongst others.

According to Dr. Aiwize, the present administration was not only doing everything possible to upgrade the health facilities in the state, but also striving in the areas of education, road construction as well as provision of potable water to Edo State.

She enjoined the committee to manage the centre properly to the advantage of the people of Auchi and environs, even as she thanked the Rotary club of Auchi Metropolitan for partnering with the state government in meeting the health needs of the people.

The commissioner also used the opportunity to appeal to the management of Central Hospital, Auchi to take full ownership of the eye centre and run the affairs like every other clinic in the hospital.

Members of the committee include Rtn. Abdulazeez Alamah, Rtn (Engr) Sule Ohikhana (representing Rotary), Chief Saliu Ahmed and Hajia Aperua Yesuf representing (Auchi Community) while the Medical Director of Central Hospital Auchi, Dr. Jude Omoregie and J. Kadiri are representing the Central Hospital Auchi.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Peter Ugbodaga witnessed the inauguration.

The Health Commissioner had earlier played host to members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society from national Headquarters, Abuja led by the Deputy Head, Health and Care, Dr. Aderibigbe Oluwakemi who were in Edo State to have a base-line survey and knowledge on the outbreak of Lassa Fever in the state.
