Edo YES gets pay review

BENIN CITY - Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has approved an upward review of the monthly emolument of the beneficiaries of the state Youth Employment Scheme.
The governor who announced this yesterday in Benin City during a session with members of the Executive Committee of the scheme said the upward review is to cost the state government additional N30 million.

This gesture for these category of workers is coming at a time when some state governments are yet to implement the new minimum wage for its core public service.

According to Comrade Oshiomhole who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Simon Imuekemhe under the new arrangement, degree holders in the state youth employment scheme who were receiving N18,000 monthly will now earn N30, 000, NCE/OND holders are to receive N24, 000 as against N12, 000 while the least category formerly receiving N10,000 will now be paid N18, 000 monthly.

“The youth employment scheme which is solely funded by the state government has so far absolved over seven thousand youths, while modalities are on to engage more.

The programme is principally designed to take the youths off the streets and make them useful to themselves and the larger society,” he noted.
While urging the youths to remain committed to duty, he solicited their support for the July 14 gubernatorial election in the state.

The President, Executive Committee, Edo Youth Empowerment Scheme, Mr. Victor Idonijie expressed gratitude to Edo State Government for absolving them into the scheme and the upward review of their monthly emolument and he pledged their full support for the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole Administration.

In his remarks, Managing Director, State Rapid Response Agency, Engr, Mujaidu Dako said the gesture of the Comrade Governor is part of his commitment to positively change the lives of Edo people.

Edo State Youth Employment Scheme came into being in 2009 and the beneficiaries have the responsibility to complement the efforts of other government outfits in traffic control, environmental sanitation, amongst other areas.
