Akoko Edo PDP youth leaders join ACN

BENIN CITY - The PDP Youth Leader in Akoko Edo, Desmond Obaro, has decamped to the Action Congress of Nigeria with eleven other youth leaders and more than 300 of their followers.

Speaking at the decamping in Benin City, weekend, Obaro said he and other youths in the area took their time before jumping ship, despite several entreaties to them because they wanted to be sure that the ACN government would perform to the expectation of the people.

The other youth leaders who decamped weekend were Hon peter Ekun, Olorunda Idowu, Mrs Grace Alao, Aiyepada Alex, Olubayo Edward, Hon Victor Omokhusu, Stephen Akegbehin, Adodo Asega, Edward Aderonle, Barrister Toyin Adegbeleye and Barrister Desmond Napoleon Shegun.

Speaking on behalf of the decampees, Obaro said: “I do not consider this meeting as being late.

We are joining ACN because we have seen the Comrade Governor has delivered.

We did not join early because we wanted to be convinced that you would perform, as some of my people needed practical evidence of your performance before joining your party.

“We are here today because we have seen the practical and physical evidences in the roads, schools, hospitals, water projects and others you have done and are still doing.

We are not just adjusting to the ACN, we tag this movement as movement from Egypt to Israel, the promised land.

“When we were looking at this party from afar, it was then I knew that youths have party and elective positions. I thank your Excellency for the recognition you are giving to the youths.

“For us, you have made the forthcoming elections very easy, because all we need to do when campaigning is to point at the projects you have done.

There won’t be need for thuggery or ballot box snatching which the other party is used to but which we will vehemently resist if they harbor such plans.

“We are committed party men and what we promise you is that we have come to add to the wind of change, we have come to stand by you.”

While receiving the decampees, Governor Adams Oshiomhole thanked member of the House of Representatives, Hon Peter Akpatason for facilitating the decamping of the youth leaders.

He thanked the youths for their kind assessment of his stewardship, saying “for me, that will be additional tonic to do more.

What is more important for me is that we are redefining the politics of the state where only one man dictates the fate of others; also, never again shall anyone tell us that Edo State is too poor to construct roads, build schools, hospitals and provide other infrastructure and facilities.”

He said with the decamping, the youth leaders and their followers are bringing on board additional experiences and strengths to make the ACN even more formidable in the state.

He assured the youth leaders they would not be treated as second class citizens in the ACN as they are entitled to all the rights and privileges as members of the party.
