Multiple Taxation: Govt calls for calm

BENIN CITY – Edo State Government has advised protesting pineapple farmers and traders from Iguekaiken Community in Ovia South West Local Government over alleged multiple taxation to remain calm as effort are on to settle the matter amicably.
The protesters who were at the Government House in Benin City yesterday held a close door meeting with the Chief of Staff, Barr. Osarodion Ogie who assured them of a thorough investigation to ensure that justice prevails.
In an interview with newsmen, spokepersons for the protesters, Uthomwin Monday, Alile Sunday and Queen Enaheghese alleged that they are made to pay N2,000 (two thousand Naira) per J-5 bus loaded with pineapple while the various receipts for a lorry load goes for N4,000 (four thousand Naira).
They also alleged that they are forced to pay N1,000 for Udo Development. Community levy and another N1,000 levy for Ovia South West Local Government Council.
The protesters who decried the multiple taxation said they were in Government House to appeal to the governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to prevail on the tax collectors to review the issue, particularly when all forms of ticketing have been banned by the governor.
