BENIN CITY- The Edo State House of Assembly committee on information, yesterday lamented the deplorable condition of the state – owned Bendel Newspapers Company Limited (BNCL), publisher of THE OBSERVER titles and praised the management that in spite of the poor state of the company, they were still able to milk water from stone.
The committee as part of its oversight function had visited the company to ascertain the challenges militating against its growth.
Led by the Chairman of the House Committee on Youth, Sports and Information, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, the lawmakers who were conducted round the various departments by the BNCL Acting General Manager Mr. Monday Aigbe and other management staff, noted with displeasure the sorry state at which the company was still producing its newspaper titles.
Speaking shortly after the inspection, the chairman of the committee, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto stated that the Comrade Oshiomhole led government in the state was a performing one which would not fold its hands and watch the state – owned newspaper under performing because of outdated and broken down facilities, noting that it was due to total neglect by successive administrations in the state.
He described the Comrade Oshiomhole’s administration as one that strives for excellence and assured that his committee would expedite the necessary plans and modalities that would ensure the urgent repositioning of the state – owned newspaper house.
