UNIBEN Medical Student murdered

BENIN CITY - A final year medical student at the university of Benin (UNIBEN) has been murdered by unknown assailants.

The victim identified simply as Abubakar, 25; sources disclosed, was stabbed in the neck as he was about entering his apartment at the Senior Staff quarters of the institution.

The incident occurred at about 9.36p.m last Saturday, as the victim who struggled to get the attention of his neigbours, allegedly died before he could be rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City.

Confirming the murder, the commissioner of police, Edo State, Mr. Olayinka Balogun stated that “you know it happened inside the campus and police have limited access to the campus so we are trying to nose around.”

Mr. Olayinka further stated that the police have begun investigation to unmask the killers of the medical student.

Contacted, the spokesmen of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Mr. Osareren Harrison could neither confirmed or debunk the report , but simply said that the institution’s position on the case would be communicated to the media in due course.
