Kidnapping Resurgence: CSP, Pastor, 98 others nabbed

WARRI - A Pastor, Head of Delta state Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad and his men are now answering questions at the force headquarters, Abuja over their alleged involvement in resurgence of Kidnapping in the oil rich city of Warri, Delta state.

Addressing newsmen in Warri, Delta state yesterday after the state security meeting, the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan disclosed that he was shocked that a man of God was among those arrested in connection with the recent upsurge of kidnapping in the state.

The head of the Anti-Kidnapping squad whose name was given as Dickson Adeyemi, (CSP) popularly called ‘chairman’ and his squad boys was said to have been arrested by men from the force headquarters from Abuja after one of the criminals confessed their involvement in the spate of kidnappings.

He has since been taken to Abuja as investigation begins on his complicity in the crime.

Governor Uduaghan while calling on the people on the need to be vigilant and report to the police any suspected movement of persons or vehicle, also disclosed that from information available to him that most of the kidnappings are carried out with the help of ‘insiders’ who are most times closer to the person being kidnapped.

He also spoke of the involvement of communities members where most of these hoodlums either hid their victims or plan how to attack a particular spot saying that, that is “why in today’s meeting I have invited some community elders on the need to rid their community of these criminals.”

Governor Uduaghan disclosed that a lot of arrest had been made since the police and the army began their clampdown, saying that so far about 98 suspects including some motorcyclists popularly called ‘okada’, have been nabbed.
