Election Reporting: Oshiomhole calls for equal opportunities to pol parties

BENIN CITY - Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has appealed to the Nigerian media to be fair in their reportage by giving equal opportunity to all political parties irrespective of ownership affiliations.

The governor who made the appeal during the commissioning of African Independent Television ultra-modern station in Benin City expressed worry over the non-regulation of the operations of government owned broadcast stations like that of the private media by the Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation.

He called on the Federal Government to provide adequate security for media houses, saying that security must be enhanced and that “Nigerians cannot get the much desired development if the media fails to appraise the excesses of government,” he noted.

The governor commended the management of AIT, Ray Power and Daar Communications for maintaining their gallant role in scrutinising the activities of government since its inception and he advocated that the peoples interest must take precedence when a political issue conflicts with public interest.

The Chairman, Daar Communications Plc, owners of AIT, Ray Power, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, who commended the governor for his developmental transformation of Edo State being displayed across the state said it was a driving force for the establishment of the Benin Station.

A minute silence was also observed in honour of the three journalists who died in an auto crash involving the governor’s convoy as well as the Governor’s Principal Private Secretary who was murdered in cold blood.

The governor was taken on a facility tour of the station after the commissioning and featured on both the Raypower FM live transmission and AIT Live transmission of the station.
